Atherton Mill & Market

On Tuesday evening, a few of us Charlotte bloggers were invited to learn more about the Atherton Mill and Market. If you live in Charlotte and haven’t been yet, please get yourself there stat, ASAP, pronto, all of the above. We toured the market itself and the many amazing vendors that reside there weekly to sell their delectable(or wearable) goodies. We also toured the Savory Spice Shop and The Vin Master wine shop. It sort of a food lover’s paradise. You really can get everything you need for gourmet meal all in one place. Adam and I have been to the market before, but had never explored these other two stops so I was really excited to check them both out on Tuesday. I’ll be bringing him back this weekend for sure!

Our first stop was Savory Spice Shop. One thing I love about this store is that you can take a sample taste of any of the spices they have, to make sure you get the right flavor you’re looking for. Pressed for time or just needing an idea for dinner? Walk right in and ask them for suggestions. They’re incredibly friendly and helpful! I love seeing good people behind local companies, it really makes for a great experience.

The Vin Master is a gorgeous little wine shop that also has a booth in the market itself, as well as it’s own store. Most wines are in the $15-$25 range and it’s another place you can walk in, tell them what you’re looking for and let them help you find the perfect bottle.

We’ve been to the market before, but it was a nice change of pace to see it on a Tuesday evening as opposed to Saturday when it’s pretty packed. Lynn, who invited all of us and gave us the tour, recommends going for the first time on a Saturday to see the market in all of it’s glory and then returning for grocery shopping during the week when things aren’t so busy.

I wish I could list each and every vendor from the market in this post, but I think featuring each vendor as we try them ourselves will be even better (and it’s a fabulous reason to make weekly trips). Let me just say, whether you’re looking for meat, fish, homemade pickles, fresh produce, freshly roasted nuts(and make-your-own trail mix), gourmet popsicles in incredible flavors, fresh baked bread, local honey, sustainable bakeware, jewelry, and so much more, you will find it right at Atherton in South End. Thank you for inviting us, Lynn!
