four years

Yesterday we celebrated four years together as husband and wife, that Adam and I. It’s been four amazing years, but by no means has it always been easy. I don’t think I’d ever want it to be 100% easy all of the time, though. It’s the tough times that have made our bond stronger than ever. I love him more as each day passes and am blessed to be able to call him my husband. He’s the greatest guy I know, really. I love you, Adam Hill. Thank you for loving me so well and being there for me through everything. Life really is a roller coaster, with it’s ups and downs, and I’m so glad you’re the one sitting next to me on the ride.

We celebrated last night with dinner at one of our favorite restaurants and fro-yo. The real celebrating is in a couple weeks when we head to DC! I can’t wait for vacation with Adam. We haven’t had a true vacation together since our honeymoon, so we’re excited to say the least. Hooray to four years and to many, many, many more together. Hooray!

Happy birthday to my love, my best friend and just a downright absolutely amazing human being. I’m blessed to call you mine and so excited to celebrate you this weekend! I love you to the moon and back and know this is going to be your best year yet.

With all my love,

Katy (aka, the wife)

the week my husband cooked most of the meals

I cook dinner much of the time. It’s just naturally how it happens. I don’t have a 9-5 at the moment, so I gladly cook for my hard-working husband. He cleans the dishes and the kitchen post-dinner so it’s a fair trade, I say. He does cook occasionally, I mean, he used to be “Chef Adam”.

He actually worked as a pastry chef at Emeril’s restaurant at Universal City Walk in Orlando. The first time I developed a little crush on him was when he cooked for a large group of our friends. I was highly impressed! Guys our age didn’t really cook such fanciful meals. So he can definitely cook, that guy and that’s a talent of his I don’t get to reap the benefits from enough.

This week Adam seemed to get a new energy for cooking and wanted to try some new recipes. Needless to say, I was more than happy to oblige.

I must say, I think he’s after my job. We’ve been eating quite well this week. Oh just the best baked chicken tenders I’ve ever had, the most delicious turkey burgers and lasagna with pancetta, mushrooms and ground turkey. It just hit me today how spoiled I’ve been this week. Spoiled!

He mentions starting a food blog on occasion and, well, I think he should. He’s a culinary hero in this household. Thank you for the delicious food the last few nights, husband. You make the cleaning after dinner well worth it.

Happy birthday, love.

Today, April 19th, is Adam’s birthday. My man is another year older today. He’s waking up three hours away from me this morning for work, but I want him to find this waiting for him.

Adam, thank you for being my best friend. Thank you for loving me even after I hit “publish” on this and post that picture of you sleeping on my shoulder for the third time. I’m sorry you hate it, but I absolutely love it.

Thank you for your humor, for making me laugh and for cheering me up just when I need it the most.

Thank you for working so hard everyday at your career. You inspire me.

Thank you for never making me feel silly about my big dreams. For being willing to be the subject of many songs yet to be written. I hope to make you proud.

You’re my favorite and I love you with my whole heart. Happy birthday and here’s to many, many, many more!

( Oh and because putting pugs in your birthday post is becoming a tradition, here you go. )

My birthday was one of those perfect days where nothing really significant happens, but they just feel lighter. I could relax a bit more. I got some work done, but gave myself permission to catch up on a few new shows as well. The day was mine.

Adam came home early with a gorgeous bouquet of flowers and we headed off to lunch at our favorite burger place. That meal sat in my belly for a long time, but calories don’t count on my birthday. I deemed it and it is so! After lunch, we swung back home and picked up Nolabird. We drove out to Latta Plantation Nature Preserve to walk the trails and let Nola splash around in the lake. A simple activity, but it was me and my favorites hanging out and and enjoying absolutely perfect weather.

Nola was scared of water up until a few weeks ago when we spent an hour in training, teaching her to get into a doggie pool and it has paid off. She now wades in a bit, but is still cautious not to go in too far. I think once we’re in the lake with her, she’ll be brave enough to get in a little more.

Once we left the park, we went home to clean up and relax a bit. We picked up some Dunkin’ Donuts iced coffee to fuel the last few hours of my birthday and went shopping to no avail, but had fun trying anyway. We decided to just head home to have a few hours to eat dinner and relax, which we did. We capped off my birthday with cupcakes and a simple birthday song. Like I said, calories do NOT count on birthdays. True story.

It was the perfect day. Nothing crazy or out-of-the-ordinary, but perfect in it’s own way and I loved every minute of it.
